Genre: Blues

Hurt and Skip is a South Carolina based trio that blur the lines between genres, combining the early haunting sounds of the Mississippi hill country blues with tribal and native polyrhythms. This gives them a very primal, primitive and percussive sound that keeps you glued to each note. It's the kind of funky blues that makes you want to dance and boogie which is how they earned their nickname, The Red Dirt Boogie Brothers.

The band is named after Mississippi John Hurt and Skip James but gives nods to blues legends Robert Johnson, Arthur Crudup, Lead Belly, Lightning Hopkins and others throughout their live show.

Hurt and Skip creates their unique sound with Shane Pruitt's red-hot dobro and slide guitar built from the blues tradition with some added “stank”, mixing with percussionist, Jason Phillips' syncopated polyrhythms and singer, Joe Power's Southern rock twang and you get “tribal outlaw blues” if you will.

Since 2020, Hurt and Skip has produced three studio albums, The People's Album, Red Dirt Boogie Brothers, and Leave Behind the Cold. Along with a 15 track live album “Live from Tribble's vol.1” which can all be found on Spotify or any of your favorite streaming platforms.

On their latest studio release, “The People's Album,” the sound is produced with Pruitt's world class soulful guitar work and Phillips' unique ability to fill any space with percussive rhythms that accompany Power's vocals and draw you to the blues of yesteryear all while stomping your feet to the boogie!

In addition to Hurt and Skip, Shane Pruitt can be found playing with the Shane Pruitt Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Roosevelt Collier and Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Jason Phillips is well known regionally for his time spent touring with Marcus King Band as their percussionist. He has also shared the stage with Jeff Sipe, New Mastersounds, Karl Denson, Sun Ra Arkestra, Alabama Shakes, the Revivalists, Everyone Orchestra, Neville Brothers, George Clinton, The Nth Power, Dumpstaphunk, Stanton Moore, Gregg Allman, Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes Christmas Jam and at Austin City Limits festival. Along with Hurt and Skip, Joe Power has been the frontman for The Consumers, Buffalohead, The Stink Bugs and his current rock band, Cash Machine.

Hurt and Skip has built an online following through their YouTube channel, Studio 317 live jams, garnering over 550,000 views and over 15,000 subscribers since late 2020 and continue to heat up any stage or screen they occupy.
