Spoleto Festival USA

For 17 days and nights each spring, Spoleto Festival USA fills Charleston, South Carolina’s historic theaters, churches and outdoor spaces with performances by renowned artists as well as emerging performers in opera, theater, dance, and chamber, symphonic, choral, jazz, and folk music. Now approaching its 47th season, Spoleto Festival USA is internationally recognized as America’s premier performing arts festival.

Highlighting a broad range of repertoire spanning centuries, many of the world’s chamber music luminaries perform eleven riveting programs at the historic Dock Street Theatre.

7:00pm: Vanessa - opera

Set to one of the most beautiful scores of the 20th century, Samuel Barber’s Pulitzer prize-winning opera explores the depths of its characters’ psyches in this modern, existential drama.

7:30pm: Henry Threadgill Zooid - jazz

Considered the most important jazz composer of his generation, Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Threadgill and his quintet Zooid make an exciting Spoleto debut for a performance at once radical, reverent, and utterly remarkable.
