Hunting Island State Park

2555 Sea Island PKWY
843-838-2011

Hunting Island is South Carolina’s single most popular state park, attracting more than a million visitors a year, as well as a vast array of land and marine wildlife. Five miles of pristine South Carolina beaches, thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet are all part of the park’s natural allure.

Of all the lighthouses in South Carolina, the Hunting Island Lighthouse is the only one in the state that is publicly accessible. From the top of one of the most distinctive lighthouses in South Carolina, guests can stand 130 feet above the ground to take in the breathtaking, panoramic view of the Atlantic Coast and surrounding maritime forest.

The beautiful and big beach. Not crowded. Real wild nature. Near the beach are a few small parking lots therefore you will not problems if you will arrive before 10 am. There is a small store: water, ice cream, souvenirs, not more, so buy food and drinks in advance. This park is an excellent place for beach holiday and walks!

Wonderful beach. This beach is so tropical with all the palm trees and driftwood..I especially love the frequently placed restrooms & picnic tables under the palm trees. This is the only beach that I have been to where you are just steps away from a shaded picnic area and the beach. It is not necessary to lug all your stuff we parked right behind the picnic tables and were only a few steps to the water.

Hunting island is my favorite place to go. I go 3-5 times a week. Great environment to be around, the beaches are wonderful, it's just an all around great time. There's this one part of the beach, which happens to be my favorite to be at, where there are downed trees all along a nice stretch of it. It just has so much more character and a wonderful place to get in some nice pictures for those who love having a camera in ‚úč. Enjoy!!!

We go here annually when visiting the in-laws. I would usually give it 5 stars but a recent hurricane has done quite a bit of damage to the island. I know it is not the fault of the folks who do a great job running the place but it does hamper your experience. They have limited parking for beach access so get there early if you are going to the beach. They have restrooms at some parking lots but not all. There is a fee to enter and going on memory it was $5 per adult and $3 per child but I could be off by a dollar or two.

This is a great state park! The beach is private and beautiful, the surrounding woods offer lots of opportunity to spot wildlife and the nature center has a neat exhibit on the different animals that live in the park. Plus there's a lighthouse!! We will definitely be back!!
