Celebrate the holiday season with “The Nutcracker,” the all-time family favorite with beautiful dancing, sets and costumes. It’s just not the holidays without “The Nutcracker!”
A Dufford Institute for Cultural Diversity Event in conjunction with Newberry Arts For All (NAFA)
This famous holiday ballet was originally a two-act ballet choreographed by Russian choreographer Marius Petipa. The original version premiered in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1892 and was not a success.
In the 1960s, US ballet companies discovered this classic and were met with huge success. Set in the late 1800s, a young girl’s godfather is a toymaker whose toys magically come alive at 12:00 A.M. Clara is awakened at midnight and becomes caught in a battle between the Nutcracker Prince's soldiers and the Rat King’s minions. Clara then ventures through a magical realm to reach the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Dance Alive National Ballet has created a modern twist on the original story with beautifully choreographed dancing, impressive sets, and spectacular costumes.
